Hopefully it help others to get easier into fly a quadrocopter/helicopter in FPV.
I just saw the new quadrocopter school video part 2.
Yesterday I tried to do a slalom in Heading Hold and FPV. What kind of lens do you have on your quadrocopter. I had the feeling the angle of mine was not enough. I mean when it was hard to see if you already passed the tree or not when you were flying close to it.
I also did a range check. My father held the MX12 with extended antenna and I walked away with the XBL until a red light (no connection anymore between transmitter and xbl) appeared. I measured 220 meters.
You said You can reach 500 meters minimum. I don't know whats wrong with my setup.
Maybe I only got 220 meters because I was walking and thus not flying high enough?

It's a wideangle view lense which give me a field of view of about 95°.

Shure that's one reason. You also have to hold up both antennas strait up. They should be parallel to each other for best results. And altitude, as you mentioned it, is a very important factor for a good range. For the 500m I used a 20-30 m high hill for myself and the flight altitude was something about 100m I guess.

ok, but when I see you flying in your movies, you have the transmitter on your lap, with the antenna parallel to the ground. it's hard to fly when the antenna has to be straight up because I can't bend the antenna like you could on a multiplex transmitter.
oh yes. to do a roll; is this possible with the slow settings or only in fast/extreme settings. Because you lose a lot of height when doing a roll, I guess it's important to do it fast

Yes I had the antenna parallel to the ground in my "school-videos" .. and that's the reason for the short clips "slalom" and "roll" .. because after that I'd to raise up the transmitter for a connection .. prevend a crash.
If I want to fly far away I hold the transmitter strait up .. a small box to sit on so you can put your ellbows onto the knee .. it works.

is it also correct that when your plane/quadrocopter flies 90° (starting from the antenna) you get glitches in range from your 35Mhz radio. I read it somewhere on RCGroups, but can't find it anymore.
the times my quadro fell out of the air was when I was flying on the same line as where i was sitting (see picture)

You mean the ufo was above you? If so, yes I had these glitches about 4 of 5 times. If both antennas are in line the transmission is bad.
You can make your ufo antenna like an upside down "L" to prevend these, but this reduce your absolute range also.
i actually meant the ufo was next to me. about 150 meters on the right side of me and on the same line as where I was sitting.
It should have to do something with the fact that the radio dens out a parabolic signal which doesn't cover this place (same line as you sit on, totally right or left from you)
I was also flying just 2 meters above the ground, so this has also something to do with it.
