Hi Everyone,
I am Red the Elder and I live in Tennessee, USA. I have been flying RC airplanes for about 23 years, but just recently have I started flying FPV. A friend of mine has been working on an OSD that is just kick butt and we have been flight testing it the past few months. We started off with a Easystar that was already built and modified it as best we could to accomodate all of the electronics. We tried several different arrangements of equipment and finally decide on which one was the best. We purchased another Easystar, which I am currently building. I am going to take the knowledge gained from the first Easystar and apply it to our second one, also to the Easy Glider I purchased a few weeks ago. This build log will follow the progress of the Easy Glider. I may also do a build log for the 2nd Easystar as well. This is my first ever build log so bare with me and hopefully we can get through this as painlessly as possible. ![]() I do not care for the propeller to be in my field of view when I am flying. Therefore I am going to modify the glider to be a pusher. Secondly, I want quite a bit of power so I can climb to altitude and glide around and enjoy the view. With that said, I chose to try one of the Chinese internet retailers for some of my equipment. I chose the Turnigy 35-36c 1100kV motor and a Plush 40 amp ESC. I plan on using 3s 2200mAh batteries. This is a 400+ watt motor so it should take the Easy Glider to altitude in a hurry. The radio will be JR PCM and Hitec servos. To this date I have modified the fuselage halves to accept the OSD circuit boards and hollowed it out as far back as possible to allow me to put the servos in the tail. I will post picture as soon as I can get back into the shop and snap a few. Until next time!! Red the Elder |

RE: Easy Glider Build Log
Hi Red!
Very interessting, i´m looking forward to see some pictures of your Easy-Star. Your rc-equipment sounds good, maybe a 30A esc is enough for Easy-Star. I´m actually building my new Twin-Star, maybe I´ll create a build log, too. What type of pan/tilt you want to use, self build or commercial? If you choose last one, look this: http://www.immersionsflug.de/index.php?a=69&lang=eng I bought this a few weeks ago fpr my TS, very detailed working and it fits in exactly. RE: Easy Glider Build Log
The Plane he planed is an EG. So I think the 40A ESC is a good choice.
Some guys at our german forum build EG with engine pylons too. Maybe you find some inspiration: 1. Thread 2. Thread Greeting Jack Greeting Jack See you next Flight! |

RE: Easy Glider Build Log
Thanks for the link.
I like his pylon, sorta what I had in mind, but I might go with a single aluminum tube pylon. This is still undecided. Ok, I can't read German, so does he say what size motor and prop he is using? Thanks, Red the Elder |

RE: Easy Glider Build Log
Here are a few pictures of progress so far. Not much other than getting the fuselage ready to join together. I removed most of the Elapor truss work down the to the tail to allow servo and GPS wires to pass thru.
I removed the servo mounts in the cockpit area to allow for my OSD boards to fit. I am still undecided about the motor mount. I like the single tube idea except for after time i belive it will compress the foam and fail. I will probably end up cutting a pylon to sandwich between the fuselage halves. I have cut a few prototypes on my CNC router but did not like the fit. I will redesign and try again. Till next time, Red the Elder |

Hi everyone,
Don't give up on me. I have had a lot going on at work, home and another project. I hope i can share details about the other project with you soon. I will continue the build log soon. Best regards, Red the Elder |

RE: Easy Glider Build Log
Hi everyone,
I finally found a little time to work on the EG a little more. I drew up my pylon in Solidworks to prove out the design and to get ready to cut the parts on my CNC. Here is the proposed design. ![]() I decided to embed a crutch or rib in the top of the plane so that I could change out the pylon if I wanted to, or if one gets damaged. The motor mount is adjustable so that I can try different thrust angles to get the best performance. I have also toyed with the idea of making it adjustable from the Tx, but that will be version II. We plan on using a Co-Pilot on this so I might even incorporate a Co-Pilot mount onto the front of the Pylon. Anyway, I dropped by a friends house that just acquired a 4'x8' laser cutter and he offered to cut my parts for me. Sounded like a good idea and it was. Only problem with the parts is that the wood on the table was 3/16" think and i had designed for 1/8". We cut the parts anyway and i was impressed. The precision is great. Here are the parts. The gussets snapped right into the slots, however, due to the thicker wood, the adjustable motor mount would not fit over the pylon. Not to worry, I have already redrawn the parts with the thicker wood and will either cut them myself or have them cut on the laser. I then used a router to route out the material in the fuselage halves to accept the rib. Here is the slot when the fuselage halves are together. Here is a trial fit of the parts into the fuselage. I hope to glue the fuselage halves together in the next couple of days and then install the rib. After that, the rest of the construction should go quite quickly. I am planning on using the C3536-1100kv motor from Hobby City with a 3s Rhino 2350mAh battery and a 40 ECS. Does anyone have a suggestion for the prop size?? I design the pylon for something in the 11" to 12" diameter range. Until next time!! Red the Elder Beau |

RE: Easy Glider Build Log
looks yummy RED!
like you i love to plot things in Rhino 4.0, and then see it all come together! this could be totaly pointless but i would "laminate" the pod with some A4 size lamminating sleeve, reason i say this i used to have a mount and the airflow would "buffer" quite loud and the airflow is not as smooth - this could not be true in your plan but i had to do something with mine! anyway keep going, im loooking on with interest!
