Build Log Scratch built Shuriken FPV Jet
Hey guys, recently I started building a new plane for FPV. This will be my first real outdoor airplane (over 500 watts), as well as first FPV plane. So far I have about 6 minutes of FPV flight under my belt with a tricopter. My plane experience so far has been pretty much exclusively indoor flying with 3D Foamies, or flying them outside when the wind is calm enough. I'm mostly a heli pilot, but planes are so much more relaxing to fly! And great for FPV.

The airplane I am building is a midprop jet. It was designed by my friend (Kai_Shiden) and he named it the Shuriken V2 (v1 was a flat fuse). He is truly a talented designer!!

Here is the original one he made in action: (at about 4:30 there's some nice low and slow flying so you can see the plane well)

His setup was hitting 53A peaks, and over 600 Watts. My setup will probably be a bit more powerful (he used what he had, I'm buying specific for the build)

Electronics:
Arc 28-47-1.5
Phoenix 60
Futaba R6008HS
Hyperion G3 VX 3S 2200
2x Futaba 3114's
2x Futaba 3115's

Below you can see the progress I've made so far on putting the airframe together.

RE: Scratch built Shuriken FPV Jet
The Shuriken jet is nearly done. Just waiting on a couple of servos and some hardware.

Layed out the electronics and I think I will mount them like this. If anyone has suggestions let me know. I plan to use a home made inverted V antenna embedded in the vertical stabilizer.

Cool, very neat. Do you cut this using laser or just usual cutter? Where you get plan of this aircraft? I want build one too.

RE: Scratch built Shuriken FPV Jet
Sorry but there aren't any plans available for this plane. I just borrowed templates from the guy who made it.

It was all cut out by hand with a razor and a straight-edge.

RE: Scratch built Shuriken FPV Jet
The Shuriken jet is COMPLETE!!! Finally!!

Test flew it yesterday with all the FPV gear installed, didn't quite break 100mph yet, but I think I can safely try a 6x5.5 instead of the 6x4 that's on there. Still haven't flown it FPV yet, by the time I was done it was a bit too dark, and this camera doesn't handle low light near as good as my other cam on the tricopter.

With Futaba 2.4 gear, I got a range test of over 500 feet (didn't measure exactly, using google earth to estimate). With all the FPV gear powered on, there was no noticeable difference in range.

Video & pics soon Smile I got 2 flights in, I'll have to edit them together.

RE: Scratch built Shuriken FPV Jet
Well the testing on the Shuriken is still continuing. Trying different props, and I've been fighting some serious elevon flutter. This is causing a huge amount of drag, not to mention, stress on the components. I have switched to a different hinge method (standard blenderm hinge for no airgap, instead of previous z-hinges) and reinforced the elevon with duct tape. Still not good enough. I'm currently in the process of fiberglassing the elevons.

Between the Tricopter , Funtana-X, and now the Shuriken, I have a good number of FPV flights under my belt. I haven't posted any vids for a couple of reasons, one being I've been wanting to edit videos together instead of posting what is basically a raw flight vid. I haven't actually gotten around to this though, so I've decided to just start and upload and post a few one at a time.
